Anyone who read anything I’ve written, knows I’m indoorsy. Growing up in the South with ticks, humidity, and other unpleasant things will do that to any person. I was also overweight so bugs really loved me! What about you though, indoorsy or outdoorsy? Are you an indoor person who loves indoor camping? An outdoor person? Do you not know?
Let me ask you a few questions to get you thinking about whether you’re indoorsy or outdoorsy.
When you think of your perfect day, do you think of being outside or do you think about being inside? What activities are you doing? Do you have an animal with you?
Are you still unsure between indoorsy or outdoorsy? Keep reading and hopefully, you’ll find out!
How to tell if you may be indoorsy or outdoorsy?
There are several ways you can figure out whether you’re indoorsy or outdoorsy.
5 Ways to Tell You’re Indoorsy
Do you think you’re indoorsy? Here are 5 ways to know!
It’s “too sunny” outside.
I’m not going to lie, I absolutely believe a day can be “too sunny.” That’s when I close the blinds, pull the curtains tighter, and hunker down in bed with my willing cat. Sometimes I’m inside for so long that way that I’ll open the front door to get the mail or take out the trash, it’s a shock to my system.
How do you react to the bright light outside? Do you cover your eyes with your hands and go inside as soon as possible? Do you just whip out some sunglasses and go merrily on your way?
If you do the first thing, you’ve checked off one of the “indoorsy” item checklists.
You do what you can to not sweat during summer.
Air conditioning and fans are an indoorsy person’s best friend. They definitely are mine!
One of the first lessons I learned here is that houses don’t often come with overhead fans. Several also don’t come with air conditioning. Who designed these houses? Definitely, someone who doesn’t value either!
If you do whatever you can to avoid sweating in the middle of summer, you definitely belong to people like me.
If you believe in wearing shoes outside.
I’m with you, honestly. I’ve gone barefoot on hot pavement and gravel more times than I can count and have always regretted it. Add in growing up with dogs that make being on grass barefoot a bad idea and I will happily keep my shoes on outside.
Do you risk going barefoot to get the mail? What about bringing groceries in? No to either? Great, grab your shoes and join other people who like being indoors like you and me.
Getting “fresh air” sounds gross.
My idea of getting “fresh air” involves opening the windows in my house or going on a ride in my partner’s car with the windows down. Don’t give me that look, it still counts!
Are your views of fresh air similar to mine? Or do you enjoy getting fresh air in terms of hiking, camping, etc? As long as you pick the first one, you’re still on your way to the hide-in-your-house club.
Your favorite outdoor activity is going back indoors.
This is me without a doubt. If you like doing indoor camping activities with kids and love staying indoor, you’re indoorsy for sure. I’ve been known to be coaxed outside, only to spend under a minute there, say “Yup, this is outside,” and head back inside until I have to leave. This was very common on the porch swing or the back deck.
How long do you spend outside? Can you last more than a minute? Or is five more your limit?
If you love growing indoor plants, it’s also a sign you may be indoorsy.
Now we go to the other side of the coin: the outdoorsy people.
5 Ways to Tell You’re Outdoorsy
Are you outdoorsy? Here are the factors that confirm it!
You enjoy all kinds of weather.
Indoor people are very particular about the weather they enjoy. Outdoor people, on the other hand? Maybe they’ll be upset they can’t garden because it’s raining but enjoy the rain by sitting outside on a covered porch. Maybe you’ll jump in puddles instead!
How do you feel about windy weather? Is it not the perfect time to fly a kite? Or go bike-riding?
Is sunny weather more your thing? Enjoy gardening, swimming, or riding a UTV down a hill!
You don’t mind not having air conditioning or ceiling fans.
I have met my fair share of people who are not bothered by the lack of AC, ceiling fans, or even smaller fans. I had a close friend growing up who always smelled like sunscreen during the summer because she spent so much time outside and she would have rather not bothered going inside at all.
Maybe you grew up somewhere where you didn’t have access to those things or maybe you’re the opposite of those people who can wear shorts in winter. Maybe you just enjoy keeping the windows open. Can you think of other reasons you’re okay not having AC or fans?
You enjoy exercise.
I’m not saying it’s only the people who love the outdoors who love exercise but there’s a good chance a lot of people who enjoy the outdoors also love to exercise. Why? Because a good portion of the exercise is done outside.
Outdoor pools, hiking, surfing, paddleboarding, and bike riding come to mind when I think of exercise. There’s also skateboarding, football, and other sports.
You love working outdoors.
This one may seem kind of obvious but I don’t know a single indoor person who has handled a job outside for more than a summer–and they love plants. You have to love the outdoors to be happy working in a variety of conditions, depending on your part of the US.
What’s your favorite part about working outdoors? What outdoor job do you do or want to do?
You enjoy spending time at sporting goods and outdoor stores.
As the daughter of someone who loved the outdoors, I spent a good amount of time at both. There are certain smells ingrained into my memory. If you’ve dragged your partner, child, friends, or parents into one of these stores, you’re definitely an outdoor person.
What’s your favorite store for gear or shoes? Or do you like them all?
