It’s a dream for your pup, a staycation with his or her owner! Dogs generally love company. Isn’t your dog always waiting to jump up and kiss you when you get home from work? Doesn’t he or she anxiously stare out the window and start barking the second you pull your car into the parking garage? Your dog hates for you to leave, so, a staycation with your dog is an ideal adventure for your pet.
You won’t leave them for any period of time, you won’t have to put them in a kennel or hire a pet-sitter. You won’t have to worry about your dog missing you or getting sick, and your dog won’t have to worry about if you are ever coming back for him or her.
Things to Plan for a Staycation with Your Dog
A staycation with your dog/pup can be super fun. Below you will find things to plan for a staycation with your dog that will excite you both.
Plan a new walk
Chances are you haven’t been to every park, beach, or hiking trail within an hour or so from your home.
You probably take the same walk around the block every day, and the routine is good, but sometimes you have to experience new things. Your dog can get bored sometimes too. Look up local parks or areas close by for a new adventure with your pup. Grab the leash and have a memorable new outdoor little hike with your dog.
Go out to eat or to a dog bar
Most outdoor seated restaurants allow dogs, but make sure to call beforehand just to make sure. Not only can you go out to eat and order for yourself, but a lot of restaurants offer dog treats and water bowls for your dog. Sometimes dogs like people to watch them and dogs watch too. Go on a little date with your dog after a nice long walk, and maybe sneak him some of your chicken too.
Stay at a dog-friendly hotel
Sometimes it is nice to not have to worry about getting on a plane or taking a long road trip somewhere, especially with the pandemic, but it is still nice to get outside of your house and sleep in a new comfy bed.
Take your dog to a dog-friendly hotel with you and enjoy the room service, dog treats, stylish modern beds, and new scenery. You and your pup can enjoy a new window view together and sit on the ledge or patio together. Just because you are in the same town doesn’t mean you have to have the same routine.
Snuggle
Pups love to cuddle with their humans. Cuddling releases Oxytocin and makes you happier. Your dog loves the attention too. Give him or her some belly rubs and snuggle up under the covers together. The attention is needed most likely for you both to just chill and relax. Live in the moment.
Go to an outdoor gathering
Who doesn’t love a farmers market or local concert in the park? If it’s a sunny and cheerful day get outside and support your local community with your dog.
Set up a blanket in the park and have a picnic. Walk around the market and grab some lunch for you and your pup. Then, listen to the music and relish the moment together.
Make art/have a photoshoot
This could be an indoor or outdoor activity for you and your dog. You can buy a giant canvas and make pay prints and fingerprints next to each other with different colored paints. Or, if you don’t want the mess, you can simply do a photoshoot with your dog. Set up your self-timer or a time-lapse and take pictures all around your hometown together. Action shots, candid shots, and posed shots… there is no such thing as too many pictures with your pet.
Go to a dog-friendly hotel for a night
You can stay in your hometown and escape for a night to a luxurious hotel.
Your dog deserves to be spoiled sometimes too. You sometimes take your dog for granted and how he or she is always there for you but you lack being there for them, whether you’re busy with work or friends or just life. Take your dog on a little escape and spoil him or her.
Get groomed
Pamper your pup so that they are looking and feeling their finest. Whether they need trimmed nails, a nice bath, or a haircut, it is important to maintain the appearance and overall health of your dog. During a staycation with your dog, have them look and feel their best with you.
There are so many ways to show love and appreciation to your dog, but the best is through a staycation with your dog by spending unlimited quality time with your pup. Dogs want you around them, they want attention, they want adventure, and they want to give you love. Give back a little of what they give to you during your staycation with your dog.
On top of all, the benefits of staycations are many and you will see how things will turn out with your dag.
